GlossaryTerms beginning with R
Redirect
An instruction sending one URL to another. A 301 is permanent and passes signals; a 302 is temporary, and using one where a 301 belongs is a common way to lose rankings in a migration.

Referral Traffic
Visits arriving from a link on another site. Small for most businesses, and a useful check on whether off-site work is reaching anyone.
Rich Result
A search result enhanced with extra detail drawn from structured data: ratings, prices, availability, FAQs. Eligibility comes from markup, display is Google’s choice.
Robots.txt
A file at the root of a site telling crawlers where they may go. It controls crawling, not indexing, and it is public, so it is not a security measure.
