Strategy

Mapping content to the stages of a buying decision: TOFU to learn, MOFU to compare, BOFU to choose. The framework that stops a site publishing only what it wants to sell.

We work on this: Independent SEO Consultant

The three stages

Learn

The buyer is defining the problem and does not yet know what to ask for. Definitions, explanations, and the questions behind the question.

Compare

The options are known and being weighed. Comparisons, specifications, trade-offs, and the objections nobody wants to publish.

Choose

The decision is made and the buyer is confirming it. Product and service pages, pricing logic, proof, and how to start.

What it is for

It stops a site publishing only what it wants to sell. Most B2B sites are heavy at the choosing stage and almost empty at the learning stage, which means they are invisible until the buyer already knows the vocabulary. By then the shortlist is usually set.

Why it matters more in AI search than it did

Answer engines are used most heavily at the learning and comparing stages, where someone is orienting rather than transacting. A site with nothing at those stages is absent from exactly the conversations where a shortlist gets written, and it never sees the loss, because the traffic it does receive still converts.

How to audit yours in an hour

List the ten questions your sales conversations actually begin with. Find the page that answers each one. Most businesses discover that half have no page at all, and that the ones that exist are service pages answering a buying question with a sales pitch.
